Asthma is an inherited condition which causes difficulty in breathing. A person with asthma may experience;
- wheezing
- shortness of breath particularly after exercise or when emotional.
Sudden attacks of breathlessness may require hospitalization. Asthma is normally treated with an inhaler.
Symptoms
The main symptom of asthma is wheezing caused by contraction of the airway. A cough may also be present. Symptoms are worse at night or in the morning.
Treatments
Wheezing and shortness of breath can often be treated by a portable inhaler which will relax and smooth muscle in the walls of the airways.
