When we first set out to build Street Word we had several aims, one of them being speed. We feel speed is an important factor of web sites and we had to make it fast. Very fast.
Coding
The site uses PHP and MYSQL to deliver the content quickly. The main site runs on an in-house-built content management system (CMS) making it easy for us to add pages. A simplified version of our CMS will be released later in the year (check back here for details).

As we mentioned earlier, we aim to have a very fast resource. The site uses HTML and CSS with only 1 image. This results in a very small file size to load quickly, even for 56k users. We looked into the effect of color and we hope that we have done a good job. We get many comments on our design and how people like the simplicity. We hope you like it too, please give us feedback.
